Our Mission

In participation with members of our community, we strive to provide quality information and library services in a bright, open and friendly environment.

Our goals include:

  • To provide access to a diverse collection that offers knowledge, information and recreation for the residents of Reykjanesbær.
  • To reflect the population in their cultural diversity and information needs.
  • To actively encourage reading within all age groups.
  • To support the search for knowledge and preserve the Icelandic language.
  • To provide information about the community and the variety of services available.
  • To set the standard within Icelandic public libraries in providing positive, accurate and reliable services.

We do this by:

  • Offering a carefully chosen selection of books, music and films. Aside from being connected to leitir.is we offer inclusive opening hours for all our users and home delivery service for the sick and elderly.
  • Striving for excellent customer service and supporting the further education of staff members.
  • Workin continuously on the library image, promotion and attraction of new members.
  • Emphasizing the importance of children’s literacy by hosting activities for children that include introductions to the library and resources within.
  • Providing modern and professional information services, interlibrary loans, access to the latest electronic resources and reading facilities.
  • Cooperating with other libraries and relevant professional institutions.
